Blue Grotto, outside Williston, Florida  28 Feb 99

I went here, with James Hurley, to finish my training for Rescue diver, but the place was so crowded, we decided to just do a single dive, and go home...   The visibility was not great due to the many divers. Most of the divers were not qualified to cavern dive, and thus unable to penetrate too far into the cave, but the ones that preceded my dive left their mark (the silt)...  Nevertheless, the dive was the deepest I've been within a cave, and awesome.

This photo was taken with the old digital camera I just happened to  have in the truck that day.

This is the side of the underwater chamber, about 20-30 feet under. You swim up under it to rest and/or do your safety stop.

That is James Hurley top left behind his video camera. We are at the bottom end of the cave system, 100+ feet down.

James Hurley through the silt heading down and into the cave.

Catfish top left 40+ feet down. The fish don't usually go too far down as there isn't much Oxygen (even for fish).

Graffiti on the way down...

On the way down. Notice the silt coming up just ahead of me.

I actually swam through this on the way though the cave.  It is actually larger than the picture seems to show.

Another turn...

Clear, silt-free water.... The only spot in the cave...

A really silty section

Near topside, there were hundred of friendly fish.
